Lake Erie Transit Transfer Station Monroe, Michigan |

The Lake Erie Transit Authority (LETA) wanted to establish a new transfer station on an existing bus line along busy Telegraph Road in Monroe, Michigan. An open and inviting, yet secure structure was developed that would become a visual landmark while driving on Telegraph Road. Generous landscaping provides a lush foreground for the building and contrasts advantageously against the hardness of Telegraph Road.
The building needs to shelter the patrons as they transfer buses, often for a short stay between rides. Moving from the street to the interior, the overhanging, sloped canopy of the building provides a transition from the large scale of the buses to the human scale of the user.
Safety and utility were foremost in the design and choice of materials - helping provide a maintenance-free environment for staff, yet details - such as glazed brick, expanses of glazing and custom steel seating, establish a refined lasting image, supporting LETA’s standing in the community.
